Join us as we welcome internationally-bestselling author, Joy Fielding, as our 2014 Edna Staebler Writer-in-Residence. Joy has always loved writing. She sent her first story off to Jack and Jill magazine when she was eight years old, only to face her first rejection. Luckily for us, she didn’t take this rebuff too seriously, and continued to write throughout her childhood and teen years. In her last year of high school, her English teacher announced that she was going to be a writer, something she hadn’t yet considered herself! After graduating from the University of Toronto with a BA in English Literature in 1966, Joy was side-tracked briefly by an acting career. She began writing full-time in 1972. To date, she has published 25 novels, two of which were converted into film. Her book for adult learners, Home Invasion, received the 2013 Golden Oak Award from the Ontario Library Association. In 2011, Now You See Her, was nominated for the Scotiabank Giller Prize Readers’ Choice. Joy Fielding’s popular psychological novels are sold in more than twenty languages around the world, and frequently appear on the New York Times’ bestseller list. Readers enjoy her suspenseful plots with believable women characters, who grapple with contemporary problems and emotions. Joy will perform a reading, selected from her favourite books. Copies of her books will be available for purchase and signing, courtesy of Chapters/Indigo.
